I read “The Longest Road” a few weeks ago and really enjoyed every word and mile of it. Unfortunately, I do not have cable TV, but maybe tomorrow’s interview will be available on YouTube or somewhere else. I have heard that you will be in the Chicago area again in the spring for The Big Read. I hate to admit that I still live in Westchester because I never quite managed to reach “escape velocity.” After reading “The Longest Road,” I just read the first chapter of “Means of Escape.” I never dreamed that I would ever read such a vivid description of the neighborhood I still live in. I felt like a ten-year old again, catching grasshoppers by the IHB tracks. Wilbert is still there and Chase Products. All the kids knew where the fire trucks were going on Gardner. Like you, I couldn’t wait to get out of Deadchester back then. Thank you for the gift of excellent writing that I enjoy reading.
